Status: Not ApprovedHEAD: 24_Kan_AM_CSA University Byline: Abhinav MalhotraNational approval is granted for csa developed tomato technology for higher yield and profitNational Approval for CSA Developed Technology for Higher Yield and Profit in TomatoKanpur—-8(Abhinav)Times News NetworkKanpur: An advanced tomato production technology developed by the Vegetable Section of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, under the All India Coordinated Research Project (Vegetable Crops), was approved at the 44th Annual Group Meeting held at Sri Konda Lakshman Telangana Horticultural University, Hyderabad, from February 20-22, 2026.This technology was developed by crop scientist Dr Rajiv after continuous research and trials over the past 3 years (2022-23 to 2024-25). The research work was conducted on the ‘Kashi Aman’ variety during the rabi season at the Vegetable Research Farm, Kalyanpur.Dr Rajiv stated that a comparative study of various combinations of growth regulators and micronutrients in tomato was conducted. Based on the results, it was found that spraying gibberellic acid 50 ppm with micronutrient mixture @ 0.5% at 30 and 45 days after transplanting resulted in the maximum fruit number (36.70 fruits/plant), the highest average fruit weight (99.87 grams), the maximum fruit weight per plant (2.45 kg), and the highest fruit yield of 549.17 quintals/hectare, which was significantly higher compared to others.Dr Rajiv explained the economic analysis, stating that the said technology yielded the maximum net profit of Rs 4,02,573 per hectare and a benefit-cost ratio of 4.39, which was the highest compared to other treatments. He said that, to obtain higher yield and greater economic profit in tomato crop, farmers should spray gibberellic acid 50 ppm and micronutrient mixture @ 0.5% on their crop at 30 and 45 days after transplanting. This technology was recommended for tomato-growing farmers in similar agro-climatic conditions (Zone-IV), including Uttar Pradesh.Vice Chancellor K Vijayendra Pandian of the university congratulated the scientific team on this achievement and said that this technology will contribute significantly towards increasing farmers’ income and self-reliance in vegetable production.
