Gandhinagar: In reply to a series of questions in the Gujarat assembly on Wednesday, the state govt said that in 2025, 22,046.45kg of cow meat and 436 cows were seized across the state. In 2024, 21,589.18 kilogrammes of cow meat and 826 cows were seized, the govt said.During a discussion on cow protection in the assembly, Congress MLAs sought to know what steps the govt had taken to protect cows. Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani asked whether the BJP had received any election funding from cow meat exporters, to which he was told that the question was outside the scope of discussion.Speaker Shankar Chaudhary said that while all MLAs were unanimous that cows and their progeny should be protected, and the assembly also passed a bill to this effect, the issue of cow protection should remain a priority.MoS law and justice Kaushik Vekariya said that strict action was being taken against those accused of cattle trafficking and that properties of offenders would be demolished. He added that in two years, 629 cases of cattle trafficking were registered across the state, and 1,810 individuals were arrested.
