KRISHNAGIRI: Two drivers and a cleaner of a private omnibus were arrested near Hosur in the early hours of Sunday after police seized 22 kg of ganja from the vehicle.A team from the SIPCOT police station was engaged in routine vehicle checks at the Jujuwadi check post on the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border. Police intercepted a Krish Travels bus heading to Thiruvananthapuram from Bengaluru. A thorough search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the discovery of a trolley bag that had been concealed under suspicious circumstances by the bus crew.“Upon opening the bag, we found 22 kg of ganja being smuggled from Bengaluru to Thiruvananthapuram,” said sub-inspector M Ravichandran. He added that the contraband was estimated to be worth around Rs11 lakh.Police arrested bus drivers Saravanan,36, of Bhavani in Erode district and Hari Baskar, 35, of Salem and cleaner Dineshkumar, 26, of Pollachi in Coimbatore district.They registered a case and launched further investigations to identify the key persons involved in the narcotics trafficking network.The bus resumed its journey around 3am, after more than two hours’ delay. Police arranged a driver from the same bus company to take the passengers to their destinations.
