Chennai: Prepared after collecting feedback from 1.81 crore families through the “Unga Kanava Sollunga” survey, the Tamil Nadu 2030 vision lays out sector-wise targets for housing, health, education, agriculture, and infrastructure. “At a time when Gandhi’s name is being erased,” a scheme will be named the ‘Uttamar Gandhi Model Villages project’, beginning with 10 village panchayats, chief minister M K Stalin said. The scheme aims to transform villages into centres of economic activity by strengthening local infrastructure, rural employment, and community assets.
In the education sector, the govt aims to achieve zero school dropouts by 2030, introduce smart classrooms in all govt and aided schools, modernise more than 300 libraries into advanced knowledge centres, and expand skill training through programmes in colleges to improve employability. Highlighting the shift in mindset among students, school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said the CM brought about a change by encouraging students to view sports as a career. The roadmap proposes AI labs in higher educational institutions and the use of AI-enabled monitoring and intelligent transport systems on highways to improve traffic management, extend lifespan of roads, and reduce accidents. Stalin said that in the healthcare sector, steps will be taken to ensure adequate medical insurance coverage for everyone. “Measures will be taken to ensure TN ranks first in India in reducing infant and maternal mortality. Mental health counselling centres will be set up in every district.” In this context, health minister Ma Subramanian said his department received more than 1,236 awards in the past five years, including recognition from the UN Inter-Agency Task Force and national quality certifications, adding that more than 15 lakh people travelled to Tamil Nadu for healthcare during the period. In agriculture, the govt aims to expand cultivable area to 50 lakh hectares, increase foodgrain production to 125 lakh tonnes, and extend micro-irrigation to 21 lakh hectares. Fisheries production, milk output, and livestock numbers are set to increase under the roadmap. The vision also outlines economic targets, including attracting 18 lakh crore in investments, creating 50 lakh jobs, and increasing exports to $120 billion. Speaking on these lines, industries minister T R B Raaja said the state created more than 36 lakh jobs in the past five years through 1,190 MoUs, with a total proposed investment of 12.5 lakh crore. Explaining how the vision document was prepared, additional chief secretary P Amudha said 50,000 volunteers were trained and a mobile app developed to collect feedback under Ungal Kanavugalai Sollungal. “The survey showed that many families received benefits from five to six govt schemes.”
