Sasaram: A Rohtas court on Friday sentenced Dharmveer Paswan to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment for raping a nine-year-old girl on Sept 12, 2024. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.District judge-VII-cum-special judge, POCSO Act, Arvind pronounced the sentence a day after convicting Paswan.Special public prosecutor Heera Pratap Singh said the girl had gone to Paswan’s house to deliver milk when he allegedly lured her to a secluded spot and sexually assaulted her.The girl’s family later lodged an FIR at local police station. The prosecution examined seven witnesses and presented other evidence during the trial.The court convicted Paswan under Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 6 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.The court also directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to provide Rs 3 lakh compensation to the victim under applicable provisions.
