Udupi: Deputy commissioner Swaroopa TK has called for coordinated efforts among departments to eliminate malnutrition among children below six years in the district. Chairing a review meeting of the women and child development department on Tuesday, she said 34,149 children are enrolled in anganwadi centres, of whom 34,006 are in the normal weight category and 20 are severely malnourished. She directed officials to conduct regular health check-ups and ensure nutritious food for children, with special focus on migrant families where malnutrition cases have been reported.The district has 1,222 anganwadi centres, including 1,061 functioning from their own buildings. Construction is under way for nine newly sanctioned centres. Highlighting women’s safety, the DC said all workplaces must constitute Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs). While the district has over 3,149 establishments, only 789 have formed ICCs so far.At the State Home for Women in Nittur, which houses 47 residents, she directed the health department to depute Namma Clinic staff twice a week for medical care and asked the skill development department to provide training and employment support. She also instructed officials to organise Baal Aadhaar enrolment camps. Of 38,377 children below five, 28,290 have Aadhaar cards. Between April and June, Sakhi One Stop Centre handled 73 cases involving women, resolving 46 of them.
