Ranchi: Traffic police personnel, who frequently endure harsh weather conditions while managing the city’s busy intersections, are set to receive significant relief as 20 new modern traffic booths are scheduled to be constructed across key locations. This initiative aims to provide a substantially improved working environment, allowing officers to perform their duties comfortably regardless of extreme heat, heavy rain, or severe cold.Presently, traffic police are deployed at numerous posts across Ranchi, but the vast majority of these setups are temporary. Officers are often forced to operate from makeshift, hut-like structures to shield themselves from the elements. To address this, major intersections have been identified for the construction of permanent, modern booths.Confirming the progress, traffic SP Rakesh Singh said, “Around two dozen permanent traffic booths are to be constructed across the city. Of them, the construction has already been done in four spots including Sujata Chowk, Argora Chowk, Ratan Talkies and Gadikhana Chowk. The construction for others will also commence now.”A major highlight of these new booths is the inclusion of separate washroom facilities for men and women. This addition is expected to be particularly beneficial for the estimated 600 female police personnel currently deployed to manage traffic across the state capital. The upgraded structures will also feature essential amenities such as a dedicated resting area, drinking water, and fans, offering much-needed respite during long shifts. To ensure that traffic monitoring remains uninterrupted, the booths will be enclosed with transparent glass, enabling officers to maintain a clear view of the roads even while taking shelter during heavy downpours or intense heatwaves. Consequently, this infrastructure upgrade is expected to make overall traffic management operations smoother and more efficient. In tandem with these construction efforts, and given that the monsoon season has already commenced, the traffic police department is also distributing raincoats and umbrellas to personnel on the ground to provide immediate protection from the rain.
