COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore district police conducted a massive drug crackdown in the early hours of Saturday and arrested 10 people on charges of possessing drug substances.Under the orders of superintendent of police A Pavan Kumar, an intensive anti-drug raid was executed across the district. Based on specific intelligence, police conducted searches at several places, including student hostels and rental spaces housing individuals from other districts and states.More than 400 police personnel, spearheaded by the Karumathampatti and Perur deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), simultaneously swooped down on more than 20 locations. The rigorous searches spanned the entire district, including jurisdictions of Kovilpalayam, Chettipalayam and Madukkarai police stations.During this intensive operation, authorities seized around 20 kg of ganja, alongside high-end synthetic drugs, including cannabis oil, methamphetamine and LSD stamps. Eleven vehicles suspected of being used for drug trafficking or lacking proper documentation were seized for further investigation.Nine cases were registered by Kovilpalayam, Madukkarai and prohibition enforcement wing police, leading to the arrest of 10 suspects.A special team has been formed to unearth the supply network, track down the sources of the seized drugs and identify other associates involved in the syndicate.Police officials stated that further arrests and sudden raids would continue based on the breakthroughs achieved during this interrogation.
