Demolition drive on Golf Course Road in Sector 42

Gurgaon: Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) demolished around 20 illegal commercial establishments along Golf Course Road in Sector 42 on Thursday after Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) confirmed the ownership of the land. The demolition drive, led by district town planner (DTP) and GMDA nodal officer RS Batth, razed vegetable shops, repair workshops, flower shops, dhabas, a medical store and other commercial units.According to officials, show-cause notices and restoration orders were issued to the occupants, but the establishments continued operating even after the notice period expired. Following HSVP’s confirmation of land ownership, GMDA carried out the demolition drive. The issue came under focus after residents repeatedly complained of traffic congestion, pollution and safety hazards caused by the encroachments. The Global Foyer Condominium Association also submitted representations to several govt departments seeking action against the alleged illegal commercial activities.“Illegal occupation of govt land and unauthorised commercial activities will not be tolerated. The cleared land would remain under surveillance, and strict action will be taken against any fresh encroachment in accordance with the law,” Batth said.As part of its ongoing campaign to enforce planning regulations, GMDA will continue similar enforcement drives in other parts of the city wherever illegal occupation of govt land is detected.
