Varanasi: At least two women were killed while 35 other pilgrims from Maharashtra suffered injuries when their bus heading to Varanasi overturned on Gorakhpur-Varanasi highway near Naisara village under Nandganj police station in Ghazipur district on Thursday.After taking stock of the incident, Ghazipur SP Iraj Raja said that the two deceased were identified as Annapurna (50) of Akola and Saraswati (70) of Buldhana. All the 35 injured pilgrims were being treated at Ghazipur medical college and hospital. As the condition of three of them remains critical, a team of specialist doctors was engaged for their treatment.According to reports, 48 persons from Maharashtra had come on a pilgrimage to Uttar Pradesh. After visiting Ayodhya, they travelled to Nepal and were on the way to Kashi Vishwanath Dham, when their bus passing through Naisara village on Gorakhpur-Varanasi highway, overturned around 11.30am.On receiving information, a team from Nandganj police station including the ASP rushed to the spot. With the help of locals, all the injured passengers were rescued and rushed to hospital.District magistrate Avinash Kumar and the SP also visited the hospital to monitor the condition of injured persons. Police said it remains unclear why the driver lost control over the vehicle, leading to the accident.
