Dibrugarh: Charaideo police recovered 27 two-wheelers allegedly stolen from Assam and found in Nagaland’s Mon district.On Monday, police conducted the operation with Nagaland Police, CRPF personnel and members of the Konyak Students’ Union. The team raided several locations, alongside Mon police, led by SP Kanchan Kumar Kandpal.Charaideo SSP Surjeet Singh Panesar said police had received information that motorcycles stolen from Sivasagar and Charaideo districts were being sold and used in Mon. Police compiled data on stolen vehicles, shared it with Nagaland Police and gathered intelligence before confirming that the vehicles were operating there.Police matched the vehicles with theft FIRs from different districts. Of the recovered vehicles, 22 were brought back to Assam in three transport vehicles on Monday. The remaining five are expected to arrive on Tuesday. The vehicles will be handed over to their rightful owners after verification.“We have information that around 200 more stolen motorcycles are currently operating in Mon district. We will take steps to recover them in the coming days as well,” Panesar said.No arrests have been made. Police have identified suspected persons and placed them under surveillance. Legal action will follow against those involved in handling stolen vehicles.Panesar urged second-hand motorcycle buyers to have vehicles verified by district police.“Buying stolen bikes cheaply will only lead to financial loss and legal trouble. Buying stolen property carries the same legal punishment as stealing it,” he cautioned.
