Sambalpur: Two officials of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar), Burla, were on Wednesday arrested in connection with a disproportionate assets case.The arrests come a day after Odisha vigilance unearthed assets worth over Rs 4 crore during simultaneous raids at the two officials’ respective properties.Vigilance officials said that Dhanurdhar Biswal, Vimsar’s establishment officer, amassed movable and immovable assets worth more than Rs 3.46 crore — about 234% higher than his known source of income. Another accused, Ashwini Meher, a steward at the institute, was allegedly found in possession of assets worth around Rs 1.49 crore, which vigilance stated exceeded his known source of income by 104%.During searches at locations linked to Biswal, officials seized Rs 19.8 lakh in cash and unearthed 32 plots and two farmhouses.Sambalpur (vigilance) SP Pradyumna Dwivedi said both the officials failed to satisfactorily account for the source of the assets detected during the raids. Separate cases were subsequently registered against them under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. A court sent them to judicial custody.
