Bengaluru: A high-speed collision between two trucks on Tumakuru-Bengaluru highway claimed the lives of two teenage workers and left two others injured near Makali early Tuesday.The victims, Pritam, 16, from Assam, and Amit, 19, from Chhattisgarh, were seated with two others in the front of the truck.Shivakumar T, 52, driver of a Mitsubishi canter, told police he was transporting rice bags from Tumakuru to Hosur via the highway. Around 3.15am, as he was passing Makali, another Mitsubishi canter travelling from Tumakuru towards Bengaluru crashed into the rear of his vehicle.The impact caused Shivakumar to lose control of his truck, which hit the road divider. After stopping his vehicle, he rushed to inspect the other truck and found its cabin badly damaged. Four passengers seated beside the driver had suffered serious injuries to their hands, legs and faces.With the help of passers-by and the other truck driver, Raghavendra, the injured were pulled out of the mangled cabin and shifted to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Pritam and Amit were declared dead, while Neelamoni and Govinda sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment. The deceased and the injured, working as labourers, had boarded Raghavendra’s truck near Dabaspete after seeking a lift.Chikkabanavara traffic police registered a case against Raghavendra for allegedly causing the fatal collision and damaging Shivakumar’s vehicle.
