Chandigarh: The BJP has secured 93% share of political donations from Punjab in the 2024-25 financial year despite having a minimal presence in the state assembly, according to Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).The BJP, which has two seats in 117-member house, received Rs 60.30 crore from the state, while ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) got only Rs 71 lakh, falling behind Congress, which collected Rs 3.73 crore, said a report released by the ADR on Thursday. Of the total Rs 64.74 crore donated in Punjab, corporate and business houses contributed Rs 57.10 crore (88%), individuals gave Rs 7.602 crore and Hindu undivided family the rest of the amount. The report, based on Form 24A submissions to the Election Commission, which require parties to disclose all donations above Rs 20,000, mentioned that in neighbouring Haryana, the six national parties — BJP, Congress, AAP, BSP, CPI (M) and National People’s Party — collected Rs 134.61 crore. The BJP led here as well with Rs 104.63 crore, while the Congress received Rs 23.84 crore. AAP, on the other hand, collected Rs 5.94 crore from Haryana — much more than it received in Punjab. A total of Rs 100.19 crore (74.4%) was contributed by corporate/business houses, followed by Rs 34.379 crore by individuals and the rest by unions and associations. In Chandigarh, the BJP claimed Rs 4.09 crore of Rs 5.32 crore. The Congress got Rs 1.21 crore. In Himachal Pradesh, the ruling Congress led with Rs 1.61 crore out of Rs 1.94 crore, largely driven by individual donors rather than corporations. MSID:: 129821260 413 |
