Balasore: The special judge (vigilance), Baripada in Mayurbhanj district on Monday sentenced two retired assistant fisheries officers to three years of rigorous imprisonment for misappropriation of govt funds under the multipurpose farm pond scheme. The convicted officials are Surendra Mohan Naik, formerly posted at Kaptipada block, and Raghunath Kar, formerly posted at the district fisheries office. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.Both individuals were charge-sheeted by Odisha vigilance for their involvement in forging beneficiary signatures and falsely showing disbursal of funds under the scheme. Vigilance officers said it will now move the competent authority to stop the pensions of both Naik and Kar.
