Itanagar: Two hardcore operatives of the banned NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) faction surrendered before security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district, an official release said on Monday.The insurgents surrendered during a joint intelligence-based operation launched by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles and the police in the Kheti area, a District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO) report stated.The surrendered operatives were identified as self-styled lieutenant Longmo Konyak, 32, of Mon district in Nagaland and self-styled sergeant major Naikai Wangsu, 23, of Longding district in Arunachal Pradesh.Security forces recovered a 7.65 mm pistol with a magazine, a US-made pistol with a magazine, eight live rounds of ammunition, two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card from their possession, the report said.The duo, along with the seized items, were handed over to the police for legal formalities. They will be processed under the govt’s rehabilitation policy for surrendered insurgents, aimed at bringing misguided youth back into the mainstream.The report said the successful surrender underscores the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence operations and the growing confidence of local cadres in the govt’s peace and rehabilitation initiatives.
