Bengaluru: No less than 13,077 people bought platform tickets in Bengaluru across 12 stations every day during 2025-26, solely to receive or see off passengers. They came to hug a loved one goodbye, welcome family home, or simply walk a few extra steps with someone before the whistle blows. South Western Railway says 47.7 lakh platform-only visits were recorded during the year, a decline from 49.1 lakh in 2024-25.Among all stations, KSR Bengaluru City Junction drew more than 4,500 platform ticket holders every day. The station alone accounted for over one-third of all platform ticket sales in the division, and its 7.3% decline in footfall largely explains the overall drop of nearly 1.4 lakh visits, or about 3%, recorded across the division.Platform TicketPrice: Rs 10Purpose: Entry only for pick-up, drop-off, or assistance at station; can’t be used for travelFine for unauthorised entry: Rs 500 (from June 28)No. of stations in Bengaluru: 12No. of platform tickets sold in 3 years: 1.4 croreTotal collection: Rs 14.6 croreStations: KSR Bengaluru City Junction, Bengaluru Cantonment, Bengaluru East, Baiyyappanahalli, Krishnarajapuram, Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal, Whitefield, Nayandahalli, Kengeri, Yeshwanthpur Junction, Malleswaram and Yelahanka JunctionYear-Wise Footfall2023-24: 49 lakh2024-25: 49.1 lakh2025-26: 47.7 lakhTop contributors (2025-26)KSR Bengaluru City (SBC): 16.4 lakh (4,508 per day)SMVT Bengaluru: 11 lakh (3,012 per day)Yeshwanthpur Junction: 10.7 lakh (2,942 per day)Source: South Western Railway
