Kanpur: Two children died and 12 others fell ill in Garhakasda village on the Yamuna banks in Etawah’s Chakarnagar block amid a mysterious illness. One sick child was admitted to an ICU in Etawah, while others were treated at private hospitals in Etawah and Auraiya. The cause of the illness is yet to be ascertained.Around 14-year-old Satyendra died on Thursday night after developing fever and vomiting. Subsequently, 13-year-old Gungun, 13, fell ill and died while being taken to a private hospital in Babarpur, Auraiya. The deaths triggered panic, with 12 other children reported ill. Two children from neighbouring Pura Mallahan village were also reportedly unwell.Ashiq, son of Arvind, was admitted to an ICU in Etawah, while other sick children were treated in Etawah, Babarpur and Ajitmal. Family members said the children had fever and other health problems.District officials and a health department team reached the village on Sunday and reviewed the situation. On the instructions of DM Shubhrant Shukla, SDM Rohit Kumar led the team. Officials examined 135 people, including 63 who underwent pathological and rapid tests. Dengue and malaria tests were negative.The SDM said all sick children were recovering. The village was cleaned and anti-larva spraying carried out. CMO Dr Brijendra Kumar Singh said a team led by district malaria officer SN Singh was sent to examine residents, provide treatment and identify possible reasons for the illness.
