Kanpur: Two motorcycle-borne men were killed after a speeding boulder-laden dumper allegedly hit and ran over their bike on the Kanpur-Sagar Highway near Pandey Puliya in Kabrai town of Mahoba district on Sunday morning. The dumper driver fled the spot with the vehicle after the accident.Police said both the victims were not wearing helmets and suffered severe head injuries.The deceased were identified as Sonu Soni (32), a resident of Shankar Bazaar in Karvi, Chitrakoot, and Ashwini Soni (30), a resident of Guna district in Madhya Pradesh. Sonu had come to Mahoba with Ashwini on a motorcycle for some work.Following the accident, residents rushed the injured to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kabrai. Doctors declared Ashwini dead on arrival. Sonu, who was critically injured, was referred to the district hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.Station House Officer Santosh Kumar Singh said efforts were underway to trace the dumper and its driver. “The families of the deceased have been informed. An FIR will be registered on the basis of the complaint, he added.
