Dhubri: Police on Saturday night carried out two operations and arrested one person with suspected heroin and another one for his involvement in illegal gambling in Dhubri.In the first operation, police arrested one Abdul Hussain Pramanik with 27.83 grams of suspected heroin from Ironjongla Part-III on the outskirts of Dhubri town. He was caught with 24 plastic vials containing the narcotic substance, police said. He was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.Dhubri Police Station (Sadar) officer-in charge Pritam Das said the operation was part of a special anti-drug drive in the area. The seized substance will be sent to Guwahati for forensic examination, he added.In a separate operation, police busted an alleged illegal “teer” gambling setup near PC Barua Field in Dhubri town and arrested one Hakim Mondal, 32, allegedly the main operator, while he was selling tickets.Mondal was allegedly running a ticket-selling network linked to gambling in Meghalaya. Police seized three notebooks, a mobile phone and cash. Das said a preliminary check of the phone indicated links to a wider “teer” network operating from Shillong, and the information could help identify and arrest more people involved.
