On Feb 24, advocate Deepak Khatri visited a temple in Kashmere Gate along with his friends, Rishab Kapoor, Vikas Sharma, Umesh and Sandeep. Around 10pm, they left the temple and got into Khatri’s car. Near a shelter home on Ring Road, Khatri heard a gunshot and Sandeep said he was hit. Khatri then noticed two-three youths on a two-wheeler chasing them. He drove away and stopped near a hotel in Civil Lines to inform police.Joint commissioner of police (central) Madhur Verma formed multiple teams under DCP (north) Raja Banthia, which analysed footage from around 300 CCTV cameras. “Some suspicious people were seen near the temple before the incident. Informers later identified Solanki, a resident of Pooth village, from the footage,” Verma said.Police raided his house and found him absconding along with his family. He was using SIM cards issued under fake IDs and remained in contact with his associates via VPNs. It was found that he had stayed at a house in Paschim Vihar until the evening on the day of the incident. Subsequent raids across Delhi and Gurgaon led to his arrest from an associate’s house in Majra Dabas in northwest Delhi.Solanki had coordinated with his associates to target Khatri, but an earlier attempt in Dehradun failed due to unclear location details, police said. A week before the incident, Solanki and two shooters had conducted a recce of the temple area. On the day of the attack, he had identified Khatri for the shooters. Solanki then tried to flee to Dubai, but couldn’t.Malik, Solanki’s friend, was arrested near Japanese Park in Rohini by a team led by inspector Sandeep Tushir, said joint CP (crime) Surender Kumar. He handled logistics and the scooter used in the crime was registered in his mother’s name.
