Berhampur: Two retired Army personnel, one of them from Andhra Pradesh, were arrested on Wednesday night for posing as Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) officers by forging documents and trying to influence police in a property dispute case. The accused, Durga Prasad Brahma (53) of Brahmantaria, near Palasa in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district, and Pradeep Kumar Mandal (58) a resident of Nigam Nagar, Ankuli, here, knew each other during their service period, said police on Thursday. The service-related cards, forged RAW movement order and fake IB representation letter, two motorcycles without registration plates, forged leave certificate and copy of legal heir certificate, were seized from them, said police.SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M said Mandal had a dispute over his paternal property at Amkuli. In 2011, his four siblings and mother sold their properties without his consent. He filed a civil suit in this regard. In 2025, he obtained a certified copy of the legal heir certificate of his mother issued by the tehsildar, Berhampur. The certificate mentioned the names of his siblings but did not include his name.In order to pressurise his family members and settle the property matter in his favour, the duo hatched a conspiracy and prepared the forged documents purportedly issued by the RAW and the IB with fake official seals. They prepared some other fake identity documents and a fake leave certificate issued by IB and RAW. They identified themselves as officials of RAW and IB by producing the forged documents, said SP (Berhampur). He said a case was registered against the duo in Baidyanathpur police station here on the basis of the written report of assistant sub-inspector of the police station under the various BNS sections and arrested after establishing prima facie evidence.
