Prayagraj: Two youths were killed as two speeding cars fell into a canal late Sunday night. According to police, the two cars, carrying nine persons returning from a marriage ceremony, lost control on the Barbari Kala village road in trans-Yamuna pocket of the district, smashed through the railing of a bridge and plunged into Belan canal.Police said both cars, coming from Naini side, swerved, rammed the bridge railing, and fell into the canal. There were nine occupants in two separate cars and seven of them were rescued, while two missing bodies were recovered on Monday morning. The deceased, identified as Pradeep (30) and Aneesh (20), were residents of Banda and Ballia, respectively.On being alerted, teams of Koraon police and swimmers rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation. Villagers on the spot claimed seven occupants were rescued by a joint team of police, swimmers and locals. Police fished out both cars from the canal.DCP (Yamuna Nagar) Vivek Chandra Yadav told TOI that there were a total of nine occupants, including four in one car and five in the other, in two separate cars, while they were on their way to attend a marriage ceremony in Gudha village on UP-MP border. The driver of the car moving ahead lost control and the car plunged into the canal after smashing the railing. The driver of the other car that was following it, lost control too and met the same fate. Police team got flow of water in the canal stopped to carry out the rescue operation. While seven occupants were rescued, two died in the accident.
