Times News NetworkMohali: Two Punjab Police personnel were injured after suspected drug smugglers opened fire and attacked them with sharp-edged weapons during an anti-narcotics operation near Saneta village on Saturday evening.Police said the Anti-Narcotics Cell had received secret information that a heroin consignment was to be delivered near the village around 4pm. Acting on the tip-off, a team laid a trap and intercepted a Swift car carrying suspects.As the vehicle was stopped, the occupants allegedly began arguing with the police and called their associates. Within minutes, another car arrived with more men.The situation escalated when the accused opened fire and attacked the officers with sharp-edged weapons. Head constable Paramjit Singh sustained a bullet injury, while senior constable Jagjit Singh was wounded in a sword attack.

Both were rushed to the civil hospital in Phase 6, Mohali. Doctors later confirmed their condition was stable.Mohali SP (Operations) Saurav Jindal said the smugglers attacked the police party after being intercepted. He added that the accused managed to escape following the assault.Police immediately sealed the area and launched a search operation. Checkpoints were set up across Mohali and adjoining districts to prevent the suspects from fleeing. Senior officers reached the spot, and multiple teams were formed to track down those involved.Investigators are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the attackers. Police said efforts are underway to recover the heroin consignment and arrest the absconding accused.The SP added that Punjab Police has intensified its campaign against narcotics under the ongoing anti-drug drive, with frequent raids and seizures across the region.A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.
