Mangaluru: CCB sleuths arrested two youths accused of assaulting a police constable during night beat duty in Urwa, and fleeing to Kerala after the incident. The accused are Sachin KR,24, from Kokkada, Belthangady taluk, and Chandan,24, from Puttur taluk, Dakshina Kannada.At 2.10 am on May 24, two youths arrived on a red electric scooter near Narayana Guru Community Hall Road, Kodikal, while police personnel were on beat duty in Urwa police station limits. One of the youths, who was seated pillion, allegedly suddenly attacked a police constable on the head with a piece of cement sheet, causing injuries.A case was registered at Urwa police station under Sections 121(1), 109, 132, and 3(5) of the BNS for assaulting police personnel on duty, obstructing govt duty, and attempt to murder.The case was investigated, and based on evidence collected during the probe and credible information received, the accused involved in the offence were traced and taken into custody by CCB police at Kanhangad in Kerala on Tuesday. They were later handed over to the Urwa police station for further investigation. The bike used in the offence has been seized. City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH stated that the accused were staying in a rented house at Phalguni Nagar in Ashoknagar. Among them, Sachin KR was working as a driver at a sweets factory in Kuntikana, while the other accused, Chandan, was employed as a technician at a showroom in Kuloor.Investigation revealed that the accused, who were roaming around the city around 2 am, became enraged when beat police stopped and questioned them, following which they attacked the police personnel with a piece of cement sheet.
