Shillong: Two suspected cases of meningococcal bacterial infection, reportedly resulting in fatalities, have been detected at the Assam Regiment Centre (ARC) in Shillong over the past two weeks.The deceased were young Agniveer trainees undergoing training at the ARC in Happy Valley. Several other trainees are said to be receiving treatment at the Military Hospital, Shillong.Defence authorities have implemented immediate precautionary measures to contain the spread of the infection. A public notice issued by the defence PRO, Shillong, stated that chemoprophylactic doses of ciprofloxacin have been administered to all identified contacts.Medical protocols, including masking and restrictions on movement, have also been enforced to minimize transmission risks.
