Chennai: Burglars decamped with 2.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery, two pairs of silver anklets, and two traditional silver lamps from a house in Pammal. Police said Senthil, 30, and his wife Vimaladevi lived in a rented house in Bharathidasan Street. They had locked the house and left for Chennai on Tuesday morning. When they returned home on Wednesday night, they found lock on the front door broken and the house ransacked. The bureau was also forced open while clothes and other belongings were strewn across the room. Further inspection revealed that unidentified people stole valuables, including jewellery kept inside the locker. Shankar Nagar police rushed to the spot, examined CCTV footage from the neighbourhood, collected fingerprints and other evidence from the house. A case has been registered, and police are probing the incident.Residents informed police that there was a rise in burglaries in areas such as Pammal and Anakaputhur in the last two weeks. They said miscreants are surveying locked houses and targeting them during afternoon hours when there is minimal movement. Locals have asked police to intensify patrolling and surveillance.
