Kanpur: Around 2.50 lakh legal cases are expected to be settled and disposed of during the XIV National Lok Adalat to be held at the Kanpur Nagar court premises on Saturday, May 9, nodal officer for National Lok Adalat and additional sessions judge, Rashmi Singh said in a press briefing on Friday.She added that during the XIII National Lok Adalat, around 2 lakh cases were disposed of and this year the target had been increased.She stressed that the National Lok Adalat provides an effective platform for the public to secure final disposal of disputes through conciliation and mutual settlement. “No appeal lies against cases resolved in the Lok Adalat, which ensures permanent resolution of disputes. In civil matters, the court fee is also refunded,” she added.Presiding officer of the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Sanjay Verma, informed that around 300 motor accident claim cases had been identified for settlement in the Lok Adalat.Additional sessions judge, Nisha Srivastava, said that almost all compoundable cases could be resolved through Lok Adalat proceedings. She added that civil disputes were also taken up for settlement.Additional sessions judge, Deepali Singh said that matrimonial disputes too were being resolved through Lok Adalats in which efforts were made to reunite families and in many cases the courts had succeeded in bringing couples together.
