Patna: The first phase of Census 2027, specifically the ‘house-listing and housing census’, is scheduled to be conducted in Bihar from May 2 to May 31, while the window for self-enumeration has been scheduled from April 17 to May 1, according to the Directorate of Census Operations, Bihar.Addressing a press conference in Patna on Wednesday, director of census operations and citizen registration Ranjita, along with deputy director Sanjeev Kumar and others shared details regarding Census 2027.Ranjita said the census would be conducted entirely through digital means, incorporating a self-enumeration facility for citizens. In Bihar, she said the window for self-enumeration has been scheduled from April 17 to May 1, during which citizens can visit the portal to digitally record their families’ details. This process allows registration using the head of the household’s name and the mobile number of any one family member. Upon completing the self-enumeration process, a unique ID will be generated. “This ID must be kept secure and presented to the enumerator when they visit the household,” she said. The self-enumeration facility is a secure, simple and time-saving process. It offers citizens the convenience of submitting their details from their homes and aids in the timely and smooth execution of census operations, they said. The data collected under the Census Act, 1948, is strictly confidential. All data within the digital tools is encrypted, ensuring complete security of citizens’ personal information, they added.Citizens should make maximum use of the self-enumeration facility — thereby helping realise the objective of ‘Census for Public Welfare’ (jankalyan) — and ensure their active participation in this undertaking of national significance, they said.
