Dimapur: Nagaland got its first Aadhaar Seva Kendra in Dimapur on Friday, easing Aadhaar enrolment, update and correction services for the residents.The centre was inaugurated by adviser to tribal affairs and election H Tovihoto Ayemi at Purana Bazaar, Dimapur, as the special guest.In his inaugural address, Ayemi said Aadhaar is an essential identity document for every citizen, particularly children, who are required to undergo mandatory biometric updates (MBU) at the ages of 5 and 15, and indispensable for school admissions, scholarships, entrance examinations and access to various govt services.Calling the opening of the centre a long-awaited milestone for Nagaland, he said it would significantly improve access to Aadhaar-related services across the state.Ayemi asserted that the state govt would extend all necessary support to ensure the centre functions efficiently so as to make Aadhaar enrolment and update services more accessible and convenient for the public.Urging officials at the centre to guide citizens properly, he said the services must remain transparent, efficient and hassle-free.He stressed that appointments, whether booked online or offline, should be handled smoothly without unnecessary delays.Noting that Nagaland still lags behind the national average in Aadhaar enrolment rate, Ayemi hoped that the new Aadhaar Seva Kendra would improve enrolment while providing comprehensive Aadhaar services under one roof.
