Hyderabad: A total of 16 students and three staff members have been injured after a cement mixer rammed into their school bus at Ibrahimnagar in Siddipet on Wednesday.While 17 sustained minor injuries and were sent home after administering first aid, the other two were said to have suffered head and neck injuries and had to be hospitalised.According to the police, at the time of the accident, about 40 people were travelling in the bus. The age group of the injured students is between 6 and 13.Chandra Mohan B, station house officer, Chinnakodur police station, said that the driver of the cement mixer crashed into the stationary school bus from behind. “The driver was caught drunk driving, and an FIR has been registered,” he added. Police confirmed that the majority of students suffered only minor injuries.Meanwhile, doctors at Govt General Hospital, Siddipet, said that only 17, including 15 children and two adults, were brought to the hospital. “We have advised two to get admitted, after seeing CT scan results, as they had head and neck trauma. However, they have left the hospital against medical advice as the private school management, where these students are studying, offered to get them treated at a private hospital,” a duty doctor said.Doctor said that, along with these two children, the school has taken all the other injured also to a private hospital. Police have booked a case under Section 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for the attempt to commit culpable homicide, as the cement mixer driver was found driving under the influence of alcohol.
