NEW DELHI: A 17-year-old girl was rescued after she was allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a 35-year-old man. The accused, who was also absconding after his alleged involvement in another case of rape, has been arrested.According to police, a complaint regarding the kidnapping of the girl had been received at a police station in Central Delhi on April 4. The girl was subsequently found at the Shadipur metro station April 5. The girl told cops that she had been sexually assaulted by an unknown person who had approached her on a black motorcycle at the Jahangirpuri metro station and taken her to a hotel, police said, adding that medical examination of the girl corroborated with the sexual assault claim. A case understand section 64 (punishment for rape) of the BNS and POCSO Act was registered. “The team examined CCTV footage from Jahangirpuri metro station to Murthal. We found that the accused had taken the girl to first have food at a hotel in Murthal,” said DCP (central) Rohit Rajbir Singh. “During the return journey, she started feeing sleepy, upon which he told her to rest and took her to another hotel near the Jahangirpuri metro station, where he took a room.” Police traced the motorcycle from the partial number seen in CCTV footage. The owner of the vehicle told cops that his bike was being used by a friend, whose address was also given to police by him. While the accused initially fled, he was later traced to Kashmere Gate on April 10, while he was attempting to flee to Bihar. He was subsequently arrested.The accused also confessed to his involvement in multiple previous criminal cases and told police that he was absconding in a rape case registered at a police station in Rohini, police said. He was previously declared a proclaimed offender in that case as well.He is found to have been involved in several other cases including cases of Arms Act and Gambling Act.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
