T’puram: A 15-year-old girl was found dead at her residence in Kattakada late on Wednesday in a suspected case of suicide.The deceased, a Class X student, was on summer vacation after completing her board examinations.According to police, she attended a temple festival in Kattakada and returned home late at night with her family.Around midnight, she went into her room and locked the door. After receiving no response to the family’s calls for a considerable period, they forced open the door and found her hanging inside the room.The family immediately informed Kattakada police, who reached the spot and initiated inquest proceedings. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead. The body was later shifted to medical college hospital for postmortem examination.Police said the girl had been under emotional distress for the past few days, though the exact reason is yet to be ascertained. A case has been registered under the provisions of unnatural death, and further probe is under way.Officials added that more clarity on the circumstances leading to the incident will emerge after recording statements from relatives, neighbours and close acquaintances.Suicides are preventable and help is just a phone call away.
