Udupi: A 15-year-old boy drowned in the pond of the Venkataramana Temple in Udupi on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Aditya Nayak, of Kukkikatte, Udupi. According to police, Aditya had gone to the temple along with his cousin Shivaraj Nayak. He reportedly jumped into the temple pond to swim.Shivaraj informed Aditya’s father on the phone, following which the family rushed to the temple. Rescue personnel, including expert swimmer Ishwar Malpe, launched a search in the pond for the boy. Aditya was found in the pond around 4.20 pm, and was immediately taken to a hospital. However, doctors declared him dead. Police said Aditya is suspected to have accidentally drowned while swimming. Udupi Town police have registered a case under Section 194 of the BNSS.
