Jhansi: Fifteen nomination papers for the 2026 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council election from the Allahabad-Jhansi Graduates’ constituency were found valid during scrutiny, while four were rejected for procedural deficiencies, the returning officer said on Wednesday.Returning officer and Jhansi divisional commissioner Bimal Kumar Dubey said 19 nomination papers had been received for the election. Of these, 15 were found valid during scrutiny. Among the candidates whose nomination papers were accepted are BJP’s Ashok Kumar Rathore and Samajwadi Party’s sitting MLC Man Singh Yadav. Four nomination papers were rejected due to discrepancies in affidavits, missing signatures, incomplete information and other deficiencies.Dhananjay Kumar had submitted two nomination papers. The first was rejected as it did not bear the candidate’s signature, while the second was rejected due to missing signatures of the proposers, incomplete information and an improper affidavit. Alok Dubey’s nomination was rejected after an incorrect affidavit was submitted and the attesting witness’s signature was missing from the nomination paper. Pritam Kumar’s nomination was rejected for failing to submit the prescribed affidavit. The nomination paper of Ramesh Chandra Kushwaha was also rejected as it did not bear the candidate’s signature.Assistant returning officer and additional commissioner Kunwar Pankaj, district election office senior assistant RK Pal and other election officials were present during the scrutiny.
