New Delhi: In a sweeping enforcement drive across the New Delhi range, traffic authorities have penalised 14,859 cases of improper parking, underscoring the growing challenge of vehicular indiscipline in the capital. The operation, aimed at easing congestion and reclaiming public spaces, also led to the towing of 617 vehicles and the removal of over 250 unauthorised street vendors from key areas.Kapashera emerged as a major hotspot, recording over 3,000 prosecutions. Vasant Vihar Circle accounted for 2,274 cases, while IGI Airport Circle logged 1,630 — highlighting the widespread nature of the issue across the city.To ensure swift removal of illegally parked vehicles, crane operations were intensified. Tilak Marg Circle led the effort with 136 tows, followed by Delhi Gate with 107, Kapashera with 91, and IGI Airport with 74.The crackdown wasn’t limited to vehicles. Authorities also targeted unauthorised rehri-patri (handcart and roadside vendors) encroaching on walkways and roads. The traffic police impounded 112 such vendors, with Daryaganj Circle alone accounting for 65. An additional 138 were removed by civic agencies, including 41 from Vasant Vihar Circle, 38 from Delhi Gate Circle, and 35 from Kapashera.The initiative is part of a larger strategy to improve road safety and prepare for monsoon-related traffic challenges, officials said, emphasising that this is not a one-off exercise.
