Ahmedabad: AMC’s estate department has been carrying out anti-encroachment drives across the city. Between Sept 1 and Sept 24, 1,428 handcarts/kiosks and 413 sheds were removed in all seven zones. Additionally, 1,882 makeshift sheds made from bamboo poles and tarpaulins and 8,479 miscellaneous items were cleared. A total of 3,680 advertising boards, banners and hoardings on public roads were taken down. As many as 2,309 vehicles were wheel-locked, and fines imposed on 2,340 vehicles. During the period, Rs 15,24,000 in fines was collected.In the city’s West Zone, 528 billboards and banners on public roads were removed, 174 vehicles were locked, fines imposed on 235 and Rs 1,25,000 was collected in fines.In the North-West Zone, 222 handcarts/kiosks and 63 sheds were removed, while 287 bamboo poles/tarpaulins and 1,241 other miscellaneous items were cleared. Additionally, 349 hoardings and boards were removed from public roads, 546 vehicles were locked, 514 vehicles were fined and Rs 2,66,000 was collected in fines.In the South-West Zone, 153 encroachments and 819 miscellaneous items were removed besides 481 banners and hoardings. AMC collected Rs 1,87,400 in fines in this zone.
