Bengaluru: Bengaluru development minister Krishna Byre Gowda has sought action against civic officials after a survey found that over 60% of streetlights—140 of 222—on the Hudson Circle–Mysore Bank Circle–Chalukya Circle corridor were non-functional or missing.Gowda said Bengaluru’s problems often stem from poor accountability rather than a lack of funds or officials. Despite repeated instructions and warnings, some officials and contractors appeared unconcerned about streetlight maintenance.Calling the corridor a vital route connecting Majestic, the City Civil Court, Vidhana Soudha and other key locations, Gowda said street lighting is a basic municipal service linked to public safety. The survey found 107 of 155 lights on the SBI Circle–Chalukya Circle stretch were non-functional, while 33 of 67 lights between Halasuru Gate Police Station Circle and SBI Circle were either non-functional or missing.Gowda directed the chief commissioner and Central Corporation commissioner to take action against those responsible.
