Dhanbad: The simmering dispute within the Dhanbad Cricket Association (DCA) has now come out in the open, with a majority of its members demanding the dissolution of the existing managing committee. In a significant development, 131 out of the association’s 217 members have reportedly signed and submitted a notice seeking the convening of a special general meeting (SGM) to discuss the future of the current administration.DCA member Awadhesh Singh has formally sent the notice to the association’s general secretary, urging him to call an SGM to dissolve the managing committee. Copies of the notice have also been forwarded to the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) and the inspector general of registration, requesting appropriate action. The move follows a series of meetings held by a dissident group within the association, which has been openly critical of the functioning of the current leadership. In the notice, the dissident members alleged that the affairs of the DCA are being conducted in a manner that has severely eroded the confidence of a majority of its members. They claimed that a lack of transparency, democratic functioning and accountability has led to widespread dissatisfaction within the organisation. The notice further accuses the managing committee of concentrating power in the hands of a few individuals through allegedly unlawful means. Allegations of favouritism, nepotism and manipulation of membership have also been raised. The dissident group has claimed that members expressing dissent are often intimidated, while election eligibility rules have been framed in a discriminatory manner, restricting democratic participation. The controversy has gained additional political significance with the support of Dhanbad Mayor Sanjeev Singh for the dissident faction. His entry is being viewed as a development that could further intensify the power struggle within the association.DCA president Manoj Singh said he had not yet received the notice and would comment only after examining it. Meanwhile, Awadhesh Singh alleged that irregularities have adversely affected cricket development in the district, preventing talented players from getting fair opportunities and affecting training activities.According to the dissident group, the proposed SGM will provide a platform to discuss and expose these issues and the election of a new president and general secretary.
