New Delhi: A total of 13,092 schools have been selected under the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme across the country so far, the Ministry of Education informed the Lok Sabha on Monday, providing the latest implementation status of the flagship school transformation programme.
The PM SHRI scheme, a centrally sponsored initiative launched to strengthen more than 14,500 schools across India, aims to transform existing schools into model institutions aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
According to a written reply by Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of PM SHRI schools with 1,888 institutions, followed by Andhra Pradesh (982), Maharashtra (946), Madhya Pradesh (944), Bihar (904), Odisha (840) and Telangana (832).
The government also shared state-wise details of teachers appointed in PM SHRI schools for non-Hindi native languages. As per the data sourced from UDISE+ 2025-26, PM SHRI schools have 9,152 regional language teachers, 6,102 Sanskrit teachers and 1,994 Urdu teachers across the country.
The highest number of regional language teachers has been reported from Andhra Pradesh (2,142), followed by Telangana (1,666), Karnataka (1,115) and Punjab (922).
The information was furnished in response to a question in the Lok Sabha seeking details of the number of schools covered under the PM SHRI scheme and teachers appointed for non-Hindi native languages.
