Nagpur: A 13-year-old promising volleyball player allegedly died by suicide at his home in Bhende Layout in Swavalambi Nagar this week. Sonegaon police said the boy, a Class 8 student, took the drastic step amid a prolonged dispute between his parents.The incident occurred when the boy was alone at home. The boy lived with his 40-year-old mother, who works for a private company. As per her statement, the boy was an intelligent student and a good volleyball player. The dispute between his parents, which was pending in court, had reportedly affected him emotionally, said the complainant.The boy’s father was allegedly not paying maintenance regularly. The mother struggled to manage household expenses and pay for her son’s educational expenses, said police.As per the complaint, the father neither was keen to meet the teenager nor spoke to him. The situation reportedly upset the teenager, who often shared his feelings with his mother, stated the complaint.Sonegaon police have registered a case of accidental death based on the mother’s statement. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact reason behind the boy’s death.
