A 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a neighbour in Faridabad on Thursday night, with her family tracking her down through CCTV footage after she failed to return home.Faridabad Police have arrested the accused, originally from Bihar, and registered a case under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, which deals with penetrative sexual assault, at Palla police station.The incident occurred around 10.30pm. The survivor, who has lived with her maternal aunt and uncle for six years following her mother’s death, had gone to attend a birthday party in the neighbourhood. She briefly returned home to drop off dinner and was walking back to the party when the accused — a neighbour known to her — intercepted her. He allegedly lured her to his room, where he sexually assaulted her.When the girl, a Class 6 student, did not return home, her family grew anxious and began searching the neighbourhood. They scanned footage from a neighbour’s CCTV camera and spotted the accused leading her into his house. The family rushed to his residence and found the minor lying unconscious on the terrace next to a water tank.“After they gave her water, she regained consciousness and told them the accused had sexually assaulted her, causing her to faint. It remains unclear how she ended up on the terrace; police suspect the accused carried her there after the assault,” an investigator said.The family immediately called emergency services and took the survivor to BK Civil Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.A police team from Palla Police Station, led by sub-inspector Alpna and constables Madhu and Sourav, arrived at the hospital to initiate legal proceedings.A case was registered on a formal written complaint by the survivor’s aunt. She also underwent counselling.Palla police station station house officer inspector Satya Parkash confirmed the accused, who is privately employed, has been arrested.
