Krishnagiri: Police seized 12kg of ganja that was being smuggled on a Tamil Nadu government bus, at the Jujuvadi state border check post near Hosur in the early hours of Tuesday. The seizure was made during a routine vehicle check by the Hosur SIPCOT police. “When we inspected the bus which was heading from Bengaluru to Salem, we found six bundles of ganja hidden near the last row of seats,” said a police officer. He added that the seized contraband is estimated to be worth around ₹2 lakh.Police initially detained a man who was sitting near the bundles and took him to the SIPCOT station for questioning. He was intoxicated when detained. However, once sober, he denied any involvement in smuggling ganja, and claimed he was only under the influence of alcohol and had never used ganja. He was released subsequently.Investigators believe the actual smuggler managed to flee from the bus during the inspection and left the contraband behind. The lapse has raised questions about how the suspect evaded capture despite police presence. The seized ganja has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to trace the smuggler.
