Silchar: Sribhumi police seized 1,200 bottles of codeine phosphate-based cough syrup from a container truck at Churaibari on the Assam-Tripura border and arrested three persons on Friday.Acting on intelligence, a Bazaricherra police team intensified checks at the Churaibari watch post and intercepted the truck. A search led to the recovery of the cough syrup, which was allegedly being transported illegally.Police seized the consignment and arrested the three occupants. They are investigating its source and intended destination and whether others were involved in its transportation.Investigators suspect the seizure may be linked to an organised trafficking network using the interstate route to transport contraband. The arrested persons are being questioned to identify others allegedly connected to the supply chain.
