Times News NetworkKanpur: A 12-year-old girl was found hanging from a noose at her home on Saturday in the Gujaini area under Govind Nagar police station limits in the city, after she was allegedly taunted as a “thief” over stealing jewellery and a makeup box from a tenant’s house.Police said the body was found hanging from a noose made of a saree with the support of a fan. The police and a forensic team reached the spot after receiving information, conducted an investigation, collected evidence and sent the body for postmortem examination.The girl was identified as Divyanshi Mishra (12), daughter of farmer Sandeep Mishra, a resident of Kathongar village in Sen Paschim Para. She lived with her mother and had been living in Gujaini for the past one year.According to Madhuri, Divyanshi, while playing, stole jewellery and a makeup box from the house of a tenant living in their building and brought them home. On Saturday morning, the tenant accused the girl of theft and complained about it.Madhuri said that when she scolded Divyanshi, the girl said she had taken the items while playing. It was alleged that after this, the tenant and his family members continuously began taunting her as “thief”, which left the girl mentally very disturbed and withdrawn.Madhuri said she tried to counsel her daughter and left for duty, but when she reached home in the evening, she found the door open and Divyanshi hanging inside the room.As information of the incident spread, there was panic in the area and the police were informed. Inspector Govind Nagar police station Ashok Kumar Dubey said, “The matter is being investigated. Further action will be taken on the basis of the complaint from the family members and the post-mortem report.”
