Kota: An additional sessions court here Thursday awarded life sentences to 12 members of a family, including two women, for the murder of a 22-year-old man eight years ago following a dispute over a goat in Bombay Yojana Colony under Udyog Nagar police station of Kota.Istiyak Hussain alias Guddu sustained fatal injuries to his vital organs after being attacked with sharp weapons and sticks by 12 people of a neighbouring family on the night of Aug 31, 2018. He was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to injuries the same night. On a complaint filed by the deceased man’s family, police registered a case of murder under relevant sections of the IPC on Sept 1 that year and identified 12 accused following an investigation. Police went on to arrest all 12 accused and filed a chargesheet in the case, but they were later released on bail.Counsel for the victim’s family, advocate Raja Jamil, said the murder was motivated by a dispute over a goat. On the night of the incident, the deceased, a relative of one of the two parties involved in the matter, went to the other party’s house to negotiate a truce. Soon after coming out of the house, however, he was attacked as he waited with two friends at a nearby shop, Jamil added.The convicted persons were identified as Ramjani (57), his wife Farjana (43), their son Mukhtar (31), Mustak (29), Mubarik Ali (26), Saddam Khan (32), Shaheen Khanam (37), Shaharukh (26), Zaheer Khan (35), Naimuddin (26), Shahadatt (30) and Shaharukh (32).All 12 convicts were sent to jail Thursday following the court’s order.
