Shillong: Police have arrested 12 people in connection with arsons, looting and disruption of public order at Tura.“We have arrested 12 people so far in connection with the violence at Tura alone. We are still on the lookout for more involved in the recent violent acts,” Abraham T Sangma, West Garo Hills district SP, said. “As of now, the situation is under control, but we are not taking chances and all security personnel have been instructed to be on a high alert to prevent any act of mischief,” he said.“The situation in Tura is under control,” West Garo Hills district magistrate Vibhor Aggarwal said.East Garo Hills district magistrate RP Marak has ordered complete closure of the main market in headquarters Williamnagar until further notice. All vegetable vendors have been asked to shift to a different location within the town.The South West Garo Hills district administration has prohibited the sale of petrol and diesel in jerry cans, bottles and other containers with immediate effect, citing rising tensions linked to the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections.The order was issued by South Garo Hills district magistrate Anendya Raajsshre, as a precautionary measure to prevent any potential disruption of law and order.
