Jaisalmer: The family of 22-year-old Mahavir Singh ended its three-day sit-in protest Friday after police detained 12 people, including the main accused, in connection with his alleged kidnapping and murder in Jaisalmer’s Khuhri police station area.According to investigators, more than 15 accused arrived in three vehicles and intercepted Mahavir Singh, a resident of Myajlar village, while he was travelling on a motorcycle Tuesday. Police said the accused allegedly abducted him after blocking the road with a Bolero Camper, assaulted him to death and later dumped his body on the roadside. The incident is suspected to be linked to an old rivalry.Following the killing, family members staged a sit-in outside the mortuary, demanding immediate arrests and action against those involved.SP Abhishek Shivhare said multiple teams were formed under the supervision of circle officer Roop Singh Inda to trace the accused. He said 12 persons named in the FIR, including the main accused Hamir Singh, have been detained, while three vehicles used in the crime were seized during the investigation.Police used technical surveillance and raided suspected hideouts to track down those involved as the accused allegedly avoided using mobile phones., Shivhare said.Search operations are continuing to trace the remaining accused named in the case. Police said the detained suspects are being interrogated and further arrests are expected soon.Officials added that the arrests have restored public confidence and brought the protest to an end.Police said a medical board conducted the post-mortem examination and the body was subsequently handed over to the family.
