Nagpur: Local crime branch, Nagpur rural, with technical support from Cyber Police, on Saturday arrested 11th accused in the Rs18 lakh gold scam, Sumit Athawale, 50, from Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Amravati.The case was registered at Kondhali police station on Dec 10, 2024, after complainant Gajanan Brahmine from Warud, Amravati, was duped of Rs18 lakh by a gang promising to sell hidden gold.The accused later posed as fake police near a resort on Kondhali-Katol Road, assaulted him and snatched Rs3,000 cash and his mobile.Athawale has multiple property-related cases, including a robbery in Paratwada, Amravati. The operation was led by SP Harssh A Poddar, addl SP Anil Mhaske and SDPO Parag Pote.
