Gurgaon: An 11-year-old boy died after falling into an uncovered water booster tank in Palwal on Thursday evening.On Friday, a case was registered after Reena — mother of the boy, Shivam — submitted a written complaint. The FIR was registered at Camp Palwal police station against the agencies responsible for constructing and operating the booster — Horikam Engineers and Silpa Horikam JV Hyderabad — and an engineer under sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 282 (rash navigation of vessel) and 290 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down, repairing or constructing buildings) of the BNS. A police officer said, “We are examining the role of the contractor, engineers and the agency to ascertain whether mandatory safety protocols were followed.” Shivam stepped out to play around 5.30pm on Feb 26. He was playing near the Govind Nagar water booster in Kailash Nagar, when he fell into the tank around 6.30pm. The tank didn’t have a protective mesh or proper covering. Reena alleged that the absence of adequate safety measures led to her son’s death.
